How often do we as Christians hear people tell us that we must “get along with everyone?” This means that we must
get along with others by not saying or doing things that hurt others’ feelings. We are called on to be nice, regardless of what others may say or do to us. Is this really the Christlike
behavior that we are to demonstrate? As we observe Jesus and His encounters with the leaders and those attending the synagogue, He confronts
these people in order to teach them and lead them as the Son of God to the Father. He confronts their rude, ugly and threatening comments and behaviors, with God’s Truth. Jesus has very
special work to do for His Father and He is not focusing on “getting along with everyone.” He will not be silenced. Jesus is about His Father’s business and His Father’s
love for His people. Jesus is teaching God’s truth, God’s expectations for us, offering God’s salvation and eternal life. This is what God’s love is really about! Jesus
calls for us to do the same as He does in His earthly ministry. There is no call for us just to get along with everyone! |
