As we examine the disciple Peter and his amazing experience with Jesus walking on the water, we have to wonder what
made Peter lose faith. He asked Jesus to allow him to come to Jesus as He walked on the water. Jesus grants Peter’s request. Peter was right there, face to face with Jesus
and then Peter becomes fearful and loses his faith. Jesus granted Peter his wish to walk on water, Peter walks on the water and is within reach of Jesus when he becomes fearful and
begins to sink. He calls on Jesus to save him from drowning. Jesus chastises Peter about his lack of faith.
This account of Peter
requires all believers to examine our faith and our walk with the Lord. How many times have we asked God for something knowing that He can and will grant it? We can compare Peter’s
lack of faith to the people that Jesus and the disciples met when their boat reached the shore? When the men of this region heard that Jesus had come to their community, they sent men throughout
the surrounding districts to bring all who were sick to Jesus for healing. They believed that all who were sick had only to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and they would be healed. All of
those who believed in and had faith in Christ, touched His garment and were healed.
What is your faith like? Is it like Peter’s or is it
like those who believed Jesus would heal them and were healed through their faith in Him? |
