In Matthew 5: 17-18, Jesus teaches us, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have
not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18: For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”
He then tells the people, and He tells us in verse 19: “Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the
kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus was talking to and teaching the people during His earthly ministry, as Moses
talked and taught the people when they were in the wilderness, that all must be obedient to God’s Law!
We are required to live and apply God’s law at all times. But which laws
are God’s laws? Since the Ten Commandments were given after Moses was teaching the Jews about God’s laws and applying those laws before the Ten Commandments, He was not teaching the Ten
Commandments yet. In His ministry on earth, we know that those in Christ were told no longer to just follow the Ten Commandments, but to obey every word of God. The joyous discovery for all of those
who are in Christ Jesus is that the Law, God’s Law dwells in us, just as the indwelling of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit dwell in us. God created us in His image, which means
He placed His law in our hearts too. |
