Today we celebrate our
mothers! However, perhaps not everyone is celebrating
his or her mother for a variety of
reasons. Today, we are examining motherhood as witnessed
by two queens in God’s word. Jezebel as the queen of
Israel was
the “mother” of the nation, but she was evil
personified. She cared nothing for anyone but herself.
She served Satan, she
persecuted, burdened, and killed her people. Esther was
also a queen and presented a very different image for
the mother of
a nation. Esther was selfless and loved God. Esther
faced the threat of death in order to save the lives of
her people. Both of
these queens were Mothers of nations, but only one is
honored and celebrated even today by her people.
