Today and throughout all time, humans have sought status. They seek to be recognized, wanting to be seen as
“experts.” The Book of James notes that there are many who want to be “masters” or teachers, because such positions carried great prestige. Even
today, there are many in the Church who seek this position and the prestige that they think they will receive. James warns us that being a teacher carries great responsibilities
and consequences if not fulfilled according to God’s purposes. All of the Body of Christ are called to teach in various ways and situations in order to bring all people
to the saving knowledge and experience in Jesus Christ, as we are led by the Holy Spirit. This means that we are to speak and teach the truth about God to lead His people to His
Son, Jesus Christ. This is an awesome responsibility and privilege! It is also important to know that if we teach wrongly, God will hold us responsible. There are consequences
if we teach incorrectly and not speak God’s truth. Our source must always be God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.
