We are now in Galilee, where Jesus performed His first miracle in Cana, before beginning His earthly ministry.
The Galileans are much more focused on what they had seen Jesus do at the temple in Jerusalem and not the message that He brings. At this particular time a nobleman travels
to meet Jesus for a special purpose. He wants Jesus to go with him to his homeland and to save the life of his sick son. He believes that Jesus can save the life of his son,
if Jesus will just come with him to be present with his sick son. But Jesus calls the nobleman out for this, why does the nobleman have to have Jesus go with him to his son in
order to heal his son? Why does he not just believe and have faith that Jesus will heal his son? Why does he not just trust Jesus to do what he has requested of Him?
Is the nobleman like so many of us? We say that Jesus has all power in heaven and in earth. We say that we trust Him in all things and to do all things in our favor. Then we
want to put conditions on Jesus on how He does His work to meet our requests. We want to tell Jesus what to do and how to do the things that we request of Him. Do we really believe
that Jesus is Lord of all? Do we have faith in Jesus to do what is best for us? Then why do we, like the nobleman, want to tell Jesus what to do and how to do it? |
