Believers are
called to be “one in Christ.” What does that mean for
each of us?
In Ephesians 4:1, the apostle Paul refers to himself as
a “prisoner of the Lord.” This means that he is totally
dependent on God
and that he is in Christ. Paul is telling us that in
order for us to be truly worthy of our calling in the
Lord, we must know and
carry out our calling in Christ with “all humility, and
gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one
another in love, being
diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond
of peace.” All followers of Christ must become “one” in
Christ, our Lord,
demonstrating our unity through the Holy Spirit. The
results of our trust and obedience to become one in the
Lord are that we
will be true servants of God in this world, that
everyone in the body will receive what they need in
Christ and from each other
to carry out the work and the glory of the Lord. We must
truly be One in Jesus Christ.
