Paul teaches the Church what it means to be a
servant of God. This new Church had Jews and Gentiles
coming from very
different understandings and experiences about servants
and slaves. Just as in our day it is not freely accepted
to be anybody’s
slave or servant, so it was in Paul’s time. When we
consider being a slave or servant totally committed to
our Master, Jesus
Christ , we are giving ourselves over to His will. Why?
So that through His provision in our lives, we can
complete the tasks and
assignments that He requires of each of us with
singleness of heart. We cannot pretend to be servants of
God; we truly must
be His servants in all sincerity and honesty of the
heart. Everything that we are able to do and all that we
are able to give, it
all goes to Him; because all that we are and all that we
have comes from Him. He is the Good Master. How can we
not be His
servants?
