The angel Gabriel announces to Mary, God’s plan to
have her conceive of the Holy Spirit and give birth to
Jesus Christ.
She is favored by God above all women to be the earthly
mother of the Son of the most high God. The angel tells
her that
Jesus will reign over the house of Jacob forever and
there will be no end to His kingdom. The angel of the
Lord appears to
Joseph, to whom Mary is betrothed and tells Him more
than Mary knows about the Son that she carries. Joseph
is told that
Jesus, called Emmanuel (God with us), will save His
people from their sins. Joseph understood that Mary
carried in her womb
the hope of all mankind. Mary symbolized and was the
completion of God’s plan of salvation for all of
humanity.
When we look at the birth of Jesus, we must also see
that we are also highly favored, in that God is birthing
us unto Himself
through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
